AESC secures its Gigafactory project in France with the support of Bpifrance Assurance Export

Their need

Exporter AESC France SAS, a subsidiary of the Japanese AESC Group, a world leader in electric batteries and a long-standing supplier to Nissan and Mitsubishi, is spearheading a strategic project: the construction and operation of a Gigafactory in Douai (Hauts-de-France). This factory, with an initial capacity of 9 GWh, is expected to equip the future Renault R5s with electric batteries.

Our Solution

Bpifrance Assurance Export, a subsidiary of Bpifrance, acting in the name, on behalf of and under the control of the State, is providing support for the financing of the Douai Gigafactory with the Strategic Project Guarantee (GPS) for an amount of 159 million euros of covered debt provided by a banking pool (BBVA, BNP Paribas, Natixis CIB, Santander CIB, Société Générale and HSBC).

GPS participates in supporting new projects in the renewable energy sector and contributes to the reindustrialization and sovereignty of France over new sustainable sectors.

Result

This giant factory, with a total initial investment of €1,3 billion, is expected to generate 3 jobs in the region by 000 and supply the Douai and Maubeuge production sites of French car manufacturer Renault. These sites will notably produce its future all-electric R2030 and R5, the "4 ECHO" and the "100Ever," which are scheduled for release between 5 and 4.

By participating in securing a national electric battery sector, the project led by the AESC company is part of a process of low-carbon reindustrialization of France, and at the same time contributes to strengthening the place of the French automobile industry within a Europe resolutely committed to a "green" transition of means of transport.
