Bpifrance Assurance Export supports Neoline and the French flag in the construction and operation of a sailing cargo ship named “Neoliner” thanks to a Strategic Projects Guarantee.

Their need

Neoline is carrying out an ambitious project: the construction and operation of a sailing cargo ship named "Neoliner", which will fly the French flag.
This 136-meter vessel will be able to carry 400 cars or 265 containers with a maximum weight of 5,300 tons, and will accommodate 12 passengers in six double cabins. The objective: to offer an innovative and sustainable maritime transport solution, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 80 to 90% compared to a conventional vessel.

Our Solution

Bpifrance Assurance Export supported this project through the Strategic Projects Guarantee (GPS).
The shipbuilding contract is financed in the form of a lease, with bank debt provided by Crédit Industriel et Commercial (CIC), CIC Ouest, Banque Populaire Grand Ouest and Banque Palatine.
This guarantee, granted by Bpifrance Assurance Export in the name and on behalf of the State, secures a project of strategic interest for the French economy.

Result

The Neoline project will allow:
• the creation of a sector specializing in the construction of sailing ships in Saint-Nazaire,
• the mobilization of a French industrial ecosystem (Chantiers de l’Atlantique for Solid Sail sails, etc.),
• the launch of a regular line between Saint-Nazaire and Baltimore, with stops in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon and Halifax.

The project's shareholders include CMA CGM, ADEME Investissement, Corsica Ferries, Neoline Développement and Louis Hardy SAS, with additional funding from Banque des Territoires and the Pays de la Loire Region.
