Critical materials: a strategic partnership to structure value chains
On April 29, Bpifrance Assurance Export, the Directorate General of the Treasury and the AFD signed a letter of intent with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) as part of the IDB LAC Minerals initiative.
A strategic issue for the economy
This initiative aims to support the development of safe, responsible and higher value-added supply chains for critical materials in Latin America and the Caribbean, for the benefit of the region and its international partners.
These value chains cover the entire cycle of critical materials, from extraction to processing and industrial uses, and constitute a key lever for creating economic value, securing supplies and industrial resilience.
The IDB LAC Minerals initiative
Officially launched in March 2026, the IDB LAC Minerals initiative aims to unite Latin American and Caribbean countries and their international partners in order to:
- to promote responsible mining development,
- to strengthen local processing and the upgrading of supply chains,
- contribute to building diversified and resilient global supply chains.
To achieve this, the BID Group relies on its regional expertise, strengthens the regulatory framework and offers a range of financial and technical tools designed to support investments throughout the value chain.
By signing this letter of intent, Bpifrance Assurance Export is fully committed to this collective dynamic, supporting the financing of value-creating projects and securing strategic international supplies.
